Join the New Jersey Wind Symphony for a festive evening of music! The concert will feature tuba virtuoso Kyle Turner performing Martin Ellerby’s Tuba Concerto. This magical night of music and holiday cheer is the perfect way to celebrate the season!

Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Kyle Turner has lived and freelanced in New York City for more than 30 years. Currently principal tubist with the American Symphony and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Mr. Turner performed and toured the world in over 500 concerts with the New York Philharmonic as acting interim principal from 2001 to 2004. He is the only tuba player in the world who has held a principal position in a major orchestra and also been awarded the Walter W. Naumburg chamber music prize, which he was awarded in 1992 with the Saturday Brass Quintet.
In addition, Mr. Turner has performed with some of the world’s greatest musicians, such as Luciano Pavarotti, Itzhak Perlman, Midori, YoYo Ma, John Williams, Wynton Marsalis, André Previn, Paul McCartney, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Dave Brubeck, James Taylor, Metallica, and Cold Play at the 45th Grammy Awards, among many others. Mr. Turner has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera, New York City Ballet Orchestra, New York City Opera Orchestra, Orpheus, American Composers Orchestra, New York Philharmonic Brass Quintet, Metropolitan Opera Brass, Canadian Brass (collaboration), German Brass (collaboration), Harmonic Brass of Munich, Solid Brass, American Horn Quartet, Radio City Music Hall Orchestra, and numerous Broadway show orchestras.
Mr. Turner has played for many major motion picture soundtracks, radio and television commercials, and Live from Lincoln Center broadcasts. He can also be heard on over 25 records, including his first solo recording, Expressions: The Heart of the Tuba.

Throughout its history the band has continued to interact with contemporary culture by featuring outstanding guest soloists in their festivals or concerts. In just the past few years these have included world-class groups or soloists such as The King’s Singers, The Brooklyn Tabernacle Singers, Michael W. Smith, Philip Cobb, Maestro Bramwell Tovey, Chris Martin, Canadian Brass, Cory Band and the Black Dyke Band.
The band continues to be motivated by their love of Christ. That motivation they link to their calling to lift high the Christian Gospel. Their music making serves as an effective arm of the SA’s compassionate ministry while the band also keeps true to the highest purpose of sacred music—giving praise and glory to God.
Beyond the confines of the SA, the NYSB’s interactions with culture stand as testimony to its consistent engagement and Christian witness. Throughout its history the band has embraced new methods to face the ever-changing nature of society. Whether setting the pace in the early days of radio and TV or continuing to use electronic media to enhance their ministry through outstanding recordings, the NYSB participates at the forefront of the interaction between the sacred and the secular.
The NYSB ranks among the most widely traveled groups in band history. They have toured the United Kingdom more than ten times, toured Europe, and Scandinavia on multiple occasions, traveled several times to the Far East, Australia, and New Zealand, been across the border into Canada on more than 20 occasions, and performed coast to coast in the Western Hemisphere.
